'The Lark Ascending' to be performed by the Royal Liverpool PhilharmonicDated 02/03/2010 by J Wood On the 17th and 18th March this year at 7.30pm (doors close at 7pm), the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, otherwise known as the 'Liverpool Phil', will stage one of Britain's favourite pieces of classical music. Ralph Vaughan Williams' The Lark Ascending was written in 1914 and essentially tells the story of lost innocence following the outbreak of the First World War. Performed to an orchestra comprising violin and piano accompaniment, The Lark Ascending is memorable not least for the metaphorical scene in which a skylark disappears into the skies above England.
