Dated 01/04/2010 by J Wood
If you are considering a trip to London to watch the annual Oxford and Cambridge University boat race on Saturday 3rd April, then you may be considering travelling there in luxury, via private coach hire. As reported by Time Out, there will be around a quarter of a million spectators expected to turn up for the four and a quarter mile event - which makes it rather a shame that you cannot reserve your very own spot on the banks as well! Oxford were last year's boat race winners, resulting in the current score of Oxford with 75 wins and Cambridge with 79.
For those who want more than a passing glance, there will be large screen erected at the start of the course near Bishops Park and another at Furnival Gardens (near Hammersmith Bridge). The race is set to start at 16.30, the course runs from Putney to Mortlake on the River Thames and will be covered live on BBC1 from 15:00.
Dating back to 1829, the annual Oxford and Cambridge University boat race takes between sixteen and eighteen minutes to complete (1998 saw Cambridge set a record time of sixteen minutes and nineteen seconds) however, being in London there is no end to the other attractions on offer.
Those travelling by private coach hire to London can combine the boat race with visits to tourist attractions such as The London Eye, British Museum, Tate Modern, Science Museum, Madame Tussauds and The Tower of London.
