On Sunday 16th May 2010, those visiting Manchester City Centre will be able to watch The Great City Games. The Great City Games (Manchester) Olympic Sprint Race kicks off at 4 pm, so if you are travelling to Manchester via private coach hire be sure you arrive in plenty of time to get a great spot! A temporary athletics track will be put in place for the runners of The Great City Games Manchester. The track covers 200m and is located in Deansgate.
Last years winner, Usain Bolt, or "the fastest man on the planet", set a new world record of just 14.35 seconds for the 150m distance. Mr. Bolt beat top class international Olympic athletes to the crown and is sure to face tough competition this year to defend his title.
Fans of women's athletics will be pleased to know that the BBC has recently confirmed that The Great City Games Manchester 2010 will feature Olympic 400m champion Christine Ohuruogu, who will take on rival and world heptathlon champion, Jessica Ennis over 150m at the event.
Of course the day is not just about travelling to Manchester on a private coach and watching top class athletes. Bupa is sponsoring "Public Sprint Races" on the day. If you fancy challenging your friends or family to a sprint race, then check out the greatcitygames website for registration and entry details and requirements. Once you have registered you will also be welcome to take part in an "Introduction to Sprinting" workshop in Manchester.
