Coach Hire Companies Enjoy Boom in Light of Ash Plume
The disruptive eruptions from Iceland's Eyjafjallajoekull volcano, which brought misery to so many travellers, have at least brought good news for private coach hire companies. The BBC has revealed that the six day no-fly ban saw travellers from as far as Denmark, Spain and Italy turning to private coach hire to get then back home – providing a welcome boost for the private coach hire industry.
It seems that throughout the summer, the coach industry may continue to flourish as Eyjafjallajoekull continues to erupt. May 4th saw Irish and Scottish airspace once again closed down and declared a 'no fly zone' due to dangers to aircraft as the ash cloud started to spread once again. Whilst the disruption lasted only a few hours, many flights were cancelled and travellers were inconvenienced.
The lifting of the no-fly ban was a relief for Conservative leader David Cameron, who was one of the first to take advantage of the air space being re-opened and flying into Northern Ireland to continue on his campaign trail. However, it seems that even mega brands have been affected, with The Sun carrying news that Virgin's Spanish Grand Prix team will certainly not be running on all cylinders, as one of their new engines has been delayed due to the disruptions caused by the volcanic ash cloud.
The situation continues to be monitored throughout the UK and travellers are advised to check with the National Air Traffic Services and their airlines before making their way to the airport.
