Blackpool Representatives Visit London to Lure Back Political Conferences

Dated 27/02/2010 by J Wood

Representatives from VisitBlackpool and Lancashire and Blackpool Tourism Board (LBTB) have this week visited London in a bid to promote the seaside resort. The principal aim of the excursion to the capital is to lure the main political parties back to Blackpool, which is suffering after losing political conferences to other cities.

The issue as to whether Blackpool would play host to major political conferences was in the past a mere formality. However, the seaside town has recently lost both the Labour and Conservative conferences to cities throughout the country that are arguably better-equipped, more cost-effective and offer more convenient and direct travel links to London.

Private coach hire was always the method of choice for the main political parties who travelled to and from Blackpool for key conferences, as is
corporate coach hire for the numerous other companies and organisations who continue to see the benefits of holding conferences and other such events in the historic seaside resort.

To date, no less than 30 conferences have been booked to take place in Blackpool over the course of the year and organisations include the trade union Usdaw, the Charities and Associations Exhibition (Chase) and the Magicians' Club. Those lobbying for Blackpool in London this week will be hoping to pull a rabbit out of the hat as the town faces stiff competition from various other locations throughout the UK, including Brighton and major cities such as Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester.
