Clearer roads over the August Bank Holiday Weekend - thanks to private coach hire!

Dated 31/08/2010 by Joanne Hindle

A leading coach hire company has revealed that thousands of cars were kept off the UK's roads thanks to people travelling by private coach hire instead of in their own cars. Events such as the Leeds and Reading Festival would have been responsible for in excess of five thousand extra cars on the roads, were it not for those people choosing instead to travel by private coach hire to the event.

Spokesperson for the company, Paul Bunting, also said in a recent interview with News on News, that 'ten times' the amount of carbon emissions were saved over the August Bank Holiday Weekend 2010, due to fewer cars being on the roads. Festival coach hire has always been a popular choice amongst revellers and its budget friendliness and the convenience of closer drop off points, has seen it soar in popularity in recent times. In addition to this, many festivals now allow people to book and pay for travel means, whilst purchasing tickets.

It is estimated that over ten thousand people travelled by private coach hire to Glastonbury festival, with many others who attended events such as T4 on the Beach and the Big Chill, choosing coaches as well. There are even provisions in place to transport festival goers by coach to Southsea, where they can then travel by ferry to the Isle of Wight for Bestival, which takes place from the 9th until the 12th September 2010.
